Gekkeikan Horin is an ultra-premium Junmai Daiginjo sake imported from Fushimi, Kyoto, Japan โ one of the country's most celebrated sake-producing regions. This flagship expression from Gekkeikan, one of Japan's oldest and most respected sake breweries, is crafted by expertly blending two premium sake rice varieties: Yamada Nishiki, widely regarded as the "king" of sake rice, and Gohyakumangoku. Each grain is milled to at least 50% of its original size, meeting the exacting Daiginjo standard, and the result is a sake of exceptional refinement and complexity.
On the nose, Horin presents a clean, aromatic bouquet of green apple, melon, pear, Asian pear, and banana, with subtle creamy rice and fresh cheese notes. The palate is smooth and lively, opening with vibrant fruit and bright acidity before giving way to deeper umami nuances of mushroom and chestnut. Despite a full, generous body, the acidity maintains a refreshing mouthfeel, and the finish is long and clean with a fleeting hint of prune. The sake is sulfite free and contains 16.4% ABV.
Horin is best served chilled or at room temperature, poured into a wine glass to fully appreciate its aromatic complexity. Available in 720 ml bottles; sold as a case of 6 at Costco.
