Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino is an elegant and intense red wine from one of the most prestigious appellations in Tuscany. This classic Brunello is produced by Tenuta Il Poggione, one of the original three producers of Brunello di Montalcino and a founding member of the Brunello Consortium, established in the late 19th century. The estate is located in the southwest area of the Montalcino hill near Sant'Angelo in Colle, where vineyards benefit from beautiful sunny exposures and a mild climate influenced by breezes from the Tyrrhenian Sea.
This Brunello is crafted from 100% Sangiovese grapes from vineyards over 20 years old. The wine undergoes fermentation in steel tanks with submerged cap maceration lasting approximately two weeks, followed by aging for 36 months in French oak barrels of 30 and 50 hectoliters capacity, and finishing with further bottle aging. The result is a wine of the highest caliber with an intense ruby-red color and light garnet highlights.
The bouquet offers rich and multifaceted aromas ranging from delicate violets and small red berries to ripe cherries, Mediterranean herbs, balsamic notes, tobacco, graphite, and leather. On the palate, the wine delivers an elegant, warm, and enveloping experience with velvety tannins, deep complex flavor development, fine structure, and a very long finish with good freshness. This is a traditional-style Brunello with particular intensity and finesse that expresses the character of a great pure Sangiovese.
