Francis Ford Coppola Winery's Archimedes is a flagship, limited-production Cabernet Sauvignon crafted from carefully selected lots sourced from high-elevation vineyards in Alexander Valley, Sonoma County. Named in honor of the legendary ancient Greek mathematician and inventor, and a tribute to Francis Ford Coppola's great-uncle Archimedes, this wine represents the pinnacle of the winery's red wine program.
Dark and dramatic in color, Archimedes presents robust aromatic impressions of blueberry, black currant, caramel, and toffee. Rich, smooth tannins complement a full array of flavors including plum, dark chocolate, white pepper, tobacco, and anise, adding to the balanced complexity of a stunning and sophisticated vintage. The blend is composed of approximately 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Malbec, and 2% Petit Verdot, with an alcohol content of 15% and a pH of 3.58.
The fruit comes from three separate Alexander Valley vineyards: Archimedes Vineyard in the Pine Mountain Cloverdale Peak sub-AVA (situated at 2,100 feet above the fog line, featuring medium-sized rocks mixed with fine loam), Dayton Vineyard in Northern Alexander Valley (Josephine loam soil promoting ripe dark fruit flavors), and Farrow Ranch Vineyard (contributing structure and essential tannins). Aged for 20 months in both French and American oak barrels, the wine achieves remarkable depth, concentration, and balance. Rated 90 points by Wine Enthusiast (2021 vintage).
