Red Yucca (Hesperaloe parviflora) is a striking drought-tolerant evergreen succulent native to Texas and northeastern Mexico. Sold in a 2.25-gallon container, this perennial plant features long, arching blue-green foliage and produces vibrant coral-red tubular flower spikes from late spring through summer. It is also commonly called Coral Yucca or Hummingbird Yucca.
This low-maintenance plant thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, making it ideal for garden beds, rock gardens, and xeriscapes. Once established, it requires very little watering — approximately every 2 to 4 weeks — and is highly tolerant of heat, drought, and arid conditions. It is deer resistant and rarely troubled by insects or disease. Mature plants reach 2 to 4 feet tall and 3 to 6 feet wide and are hardy in USDA Zones 5–10. The colorful flower spikes are a popular nectar source for hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies.
Plant in well-drained soil at the same depth as the nursery container and water thoroughly after planting. Avoid overwatering, as soggy soil can cause root rot. Minimal pruning is needed — remove dead or damaged leaves as necessary. A slow-release balanced fertilizer applied in early spring can support healthy growth and abundant blooms.
