Renato Ratti's Battaglione Barbera d'Asti is a 100% Barbera wine from the Asti hills of Piedmont, northwestern Italy, produced under the Barbera d'Asti DOP denomination. Grapes are sourced in part from the producer's estate vineyards at Villa Pattono in Costigliole d'Asti and from select hillside vineyards throughout the Asti zone.

The grapes are handpicked in September, de-stemmed, and pressed before undergoing alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Skin contact lasts approximately two weeks, and malolactic fermentation takes place in steel containers, preserving the variety's natural brightness. The result is a wine of intense ruby-red color with aromas of ripe fruit and spice on the nose. On the palate, flavors of black cherry, raspberry, plum, and spicy pepper are supported by lively acidity and firm tannins. The wine finishes dry with good persistence and is well suited to a few years of cellaring; decanting before serving helps open up its character. Alcohol: 14.5%.

The label features a historical "soldier" motif created by Renato Ratti to honor the Piedmontese regiments of the 18th century, and the wine is bottled in the iconic Albeisa bottle — a distinctive shape created by Renato Ratti in 1973 to celebrate the wines of the Alba territory. The Wine Advocate awarded it 90 points. It pairs beautifully with pasta in red sauces, meatballs, pizza, and roasted or grilled red meats.
