The Pessimist by DAOU is a bold red blend from Paso Robles, California, crafted from 62% Petite Sirah, 20% Zinfandel, 16% Syrah, and 2% Lagrein. Aged 11 months in 50% new French oak, this wine delivers 15.2% alcohol content.
The wine presents a powerful and intensely aromatic nose featuring blueberry, boysenberry, black plum, elderberry, and truffle notes, with accents of cocoa, cardamom spice, and hints of eucalyptus. On the palate, it offers a medium to full-bodied experience with nicely integrated spice, dark chocolate, black tea, cola, and ripe berry flavors. The finish is dry, long, and slightly grippy with lingering oaky tannins.
This concentrated, full-bodied wine pairs exceptionally well with beef, lamb, and hard cheeses. The wine has received positive reviews for its smooth sipping quality and exceptional value, with critics praising it as one of the best bottles in its price range.
