Chimney Rock Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley's prestigious Stags Leap District in a 1.5-liter magnum format. This estate-grown wine comes from the winery's 134-acre vineyard, the first viticultural area in the United States approved based on the distinctiveness of its soils. With 28 distinctive vineyard blocks featuring an array of different aspects, soil types, clones, and rootstocks, the wine delivers a holistic representation of the estate terroir.
The wine is aged 18 months in 50% new French oak and 50% used French oak, with 26-40 days of skin contact during fermentation in stainless steel. Deep red with purple hue, it opens with abundant aromas of black cherry, mocha, and subtle hints of mint and floral notes. On the palate, the wine is graceful and elegant with luscious black cherry flavors in the midpalate, while the tannin structure and finish are supple and round. Rich and savory with plum and dried fig notes complemented by vanilla undertones.
The Chimney Rock estate winery, situated on the famed Silverado Trail, was established in 1984 with the legendary Philip Togni crafting the debut vintages. The Terlato family acquired the property in 2000, with Elizabeth Vianna serving as head winemaker since 2005. The 2021 vintage earned 95 points from Jeb Dunnuck, 94 points from Wine Spectator, 93 points from James Suckling, and 92 points from Wine Advocate. The magnum format is ideal for cellaring or special occasions.
