Castello Banfi San Angelo Pinot Grigio is an elegant Italian white wine sourced entirely from 100% Pinot Grigio grapes grown in the Montalcino hills of Southern Tuscany, classified under the Toscana IGT appellation. The wine is distinguished from its northern Italian counterparts by its lush tropical character, offering a fresh bouquet of pear, peach, anise, and honey alongside notes of lemon, white grapefruit, and apricot. On the palate it is fruity and crisp, medium-bodied, and very refreshing with a bright, clean finish.
The wine is produced through temperature-controlled fermentation (59–64°F) of free-run juice, immediately followed by cold stabilization at low temperature. This technique preserves a light, natural effervescence and retains the wine's delicate aromatics. It is bottled just a few months after harvest, capturing peak freshness before the new year ends. Grapes are grown on yellowish-brown, slightly calcareous clay soils that lend the wine its distinctive mineral character. Alcohol is 12.5% by volume, with total acidity of 5.3 g/l and residual sugar of 2.5 g/l.
San Angelo Pinot Grigio has earned consistent 90–91 point scores from James Suckling across multiple vintages. It serves as an excellent aperitif and pairs beautifully with light dishes such as grilled vegetables, pasta primavera, and a wide range of seafood.
