The Tamukeyama Weeping Japanese Maple (Acer palmatum dissectum 'Tamukeyama') is a graceful ornamental tree prized for its deeply cut, lace-like foliage and elegant cascading branches. Sold in a 7-gallon container, this well-established, landscape-ready specimen is ideal for gardens, patios, entryways, and water features. Leaves emerge bright red in spring, deepen to rich burgundy and crimson through summer, and put on a brilliant scarlet display in fall before the tree sheds its leaves to reveal attractive waxy red bark and a sculptural winter silhouette.
At maturity, the Tamukeyama reaches 6–10 feet tall and 10–12 feet wide, forming a broad cascading dome wider than its height. Its moderate growth rate of 1–2 feet per year makes it a manageable focal point in smaller garden spaces, courtyards, and containers. The weeping branching pattern creates a layered, waterfall-like effect that adds year-round structure and visual interest.
Plant in full sun to partial shade in USDA Hardiness Zones 5–8. In warmer southern climates, afternoon shade is recommended to protect leaf color and prevent scorch. The tree prefers moist, organically rich, slightly acidic, well-drained soil. Once established, it is low maintenance and can be lightly pruned in late winter or early spring while dormant to maintain desired shape.
