Joseph Drouhin Beaune Premier Cru Clos des Mouches Blanc is one of the most celebrated white Burgundies, produced from 100% Chardonnay grapes grown on the renowned Clos des Mouches vineyard in Beaune. The Drouhin family has owned the largest parcel of this historic vineyard since the 1920s, when Maurice Drouhin assembled 41 different parcels from 8 proprietors. The 14-hectare site sits at mid-slope with an east/southeast exposure on clay and limestone soils, producing wines of remarkable finesse and complexity.
The wine is hand-harvested and gently pressed in a pneumatic press before fermenting and aging in French oak barrels (20-25% new oak) for 16 to 18 months. Maison Joseph Drouhin has practiced organic viticulture since the late 1980s and biodynamic methods since the 1990s. The vineyard name derives from "mouches à miel" (honey flies), as bee-hives once thrived in this sun-drenched enclosure.
On the nose, the wine offers complex floral notes of white lilac and white rose, evolving toward grilled hazelnut and almond. With aeration, it reveals white truffle, citron, honey, and nutmeg. The palate is lively with rich texture, structure, and minerality — round but never heavy, with harmonious fullness on the finish. Optimal drinking window is 8-10 years from vintage with aging potential up to 15 years. Best served at 14°C (57°F). Sold in 750ml bottles.
