Inglenook Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic expression of the famed Rutherford Bench in Napa Valley, crafted as a tribute to the legendary winemaker John Daniel Jr., who produced the much-heralded 1941 Inglenook Cabernet Sauvignon from vine cuttings brought to the property from Bordeaux by original founder Gustave Niebaum. This estate-grown wine is produced from organically farmed vineyards — Inglenook has practiced organic farming since the 1980s and was one of the first Napa Valley estates to receive organic certification in 1994.
The wine is primarily composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, blended with varying proportions of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and occasionally Malbec, drawn from multiple distinctive vineyard blocks across the Inglenook estate including the Chateau, Cohn, Creek, Red Barn, Walnut, and Gate blocks. After harvest, the wine is aged for 18 to 20 months in 100% French oak barrels with approximately 50% new oak, imparting structure and complexity while preserving the wine's fruit character.
Expect aromas of ripe cassis, black cherry, blackberry, espresso, and cedar, with fine-grained, polished tannins that are characteristic of the Rutherford appellation. The wine delivers vibrant structure, balanced acidity, and a long, lingering finish. It is suitable for immediate enjoyment and has excellent aging potential of 10 to 20 years.
