Viña Real Crianza is a classic red wine from the Rioja Alavesa denomination of origin in northern Spain, produced by CVNE (Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España). The wine is crafted primarily from Tempranillo grapes (90%) blended with Garnacha, Mazuelo, and Graciano (10%), sourced from CVNE's own estate vineyards in Laguardia and from long-trusted growers throughout Rioja Alavesa.
Grapes are de-stemmed and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats at 26–28°C before undergoing malolactic fermentation. The wine then ages for 13 to 14 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels, with racking every 5–6 months to encourage proper development. This oak-aging qualifies it as a Crianza under Spanish wine law, ensuring a minimum period of barrel maturation before release.
The wine presents aromas of ripe black fruit, blackberries, and wild blueberries with notes of black liquorice and a backdrop of well-integrated vanilla and nutmeg from the oak. On the palate it is medium-bodied, peppery, and juicy with fine-grained tannins and a long, fresh finish. It carries 14% ABV. Critics have awarded it 93 points from James Suckling and 91 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, making it an outstanding value in its category.
