This is a fresh, wild-caught whole Copper River Sockeye Salmon, sold by the pound at Costco during the seasonal summer salmon run. The fish is sourced from the Copper River in Alaska, one of the most celebrated salmon fisheries in the world, and is a Product of USA.
Copper River Sockeye Salmon is prized for its exceptionally rich flavor and high omega-3 oil content. The salmon must travel nearly 300 miles up the cold, fast-moving Copper River to reach their spawning grounds, which causes them to build up generous fat reserves. The result is a deeply flavored, moist, and tender fish with a vibrant red-orange flesh that holds up beautifully to grilling, roasting, broiling, or cedar-plank cooking.
Sold whole, this salmon typically weighs between 4 and 6 pounds per fish, making it ideal for a family meal or entertaining. The whole fish can be cut into steaks or filleted before cooking. As a fresh, wild product, availability is strictly seasonal and limited to the Copper River salmon season, which generally runs from late spring through summer. Inventory and pricing vary by warehouse location.
