Long Shadows Chester Kidder is a prestigious red wine blend crafted by winemaker Gilles Nicault from Washington State's Columbia Valley. Named in honor of the late Allen Shoup's mother, Elizabeth Chester, and his grandmother, Maggie Kidder, this wine is a signature expression of Long Shadows Vintners — a winery founded by Shoup with a vision of bringing world-class winemakers together to create wines that showcase Washington State's finest terroir.
The blend is Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant, typically composed of approximately 60–65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28–35% Syrah, and a small percentage of Petit Verdot. Fruit is sourced from acclaimed Columbia Valley vineyards including Summit View, Candy Mountain, and Dionysus. The wine is aged for 30 months in tight-grain French oak barrels, with 80–85% new oak, lending layers of complexity including notes of black currant, blackberry, dark plum, toasted spice, chocolate, graphite, and violet flowers. On the palate, it is full-bodied with firm, velvety tannins and a long, lingering finish.
Chester Kidder consistently earns scores in the 92–96-point range from leading critics including Wine Advocate, Jeb Dunnuck, James Suckling, and Wine Enthusiast. It is considered a cellar-worthy wine with 15–20 or more years of aging potential, though it can be enjoyed upon release. Each 750ML bottle delivers the hallmark intensity and elegance associated with premier Washington State red wines.
