Juici apples are a modern, premium apple variety developed in Washington State through a cross between Braeburn and Honeycrisp apples, selected in 2004 and introduced commercially in 2017 by Starr Ranch Growers. This 4-pound bag offers a convenient supply of one of the more distinctive apples available at Costco.
Juici apples are medium to large in size, averaging 7 to 8 centimeters in diameter, with an oval to conical shape and a visually striking appearance: thin, smooth skin with a yellow-green base overlaid by a dark red-orange blush, a unique dimpled texture, and prominent pale-yellow lenticels. The pale yellow to ivory flesh is exceptionally dense and crunchy, composed of larger cells that deliver a satisfying snapping, cracking consistency. The apples feel heavy for their size and are well known for their notably juicy, aqueous nature.
The flavor profile is a balanced sweet-tart combination, beginning with a sharp but not overpowering tangy zest that quickly yields to a pleasant, sweet aftertaste. The variety is multi-purpose: excellent eaten fresh out of hand, sliced into salads, cheese plates, or breakfast bowls, dipped in caramel, pressed into juice or cocktails, or used in baked goods such as tarts, crisps, cinnamon rolls, and muffins. Juici apples pair especially well with cinnamon, ginger, allspice, honey, vanilla, and cheeses like parmesan, goat, and feta. Whole, unwashed apples store for 1 to 3 months in the refrigerator.
