Claritin-D 24 Hour is a non-drowsy allergy and congestion relief medication combining loratadine 10 mg (antihistamine) and pseudoephedrine sulfate 240 mg (nasal decongestant) in an extended-release tablet formulation. This over-the-counter medication provides 24-hour relief for multiple allergy symptoms including sneezing, runny nose, itchy and watery eyes, and itching of the nose or throat caused by hay fever or other upper respiratory allergies.
The extended-release formula also temporarily relieves nasal and sinus congestion due to the common cold, hay fever, or other upper respiratory allergies. It reduces swelling of nasal passages, relieves sinus congestion and pressure, and temporarily restores freer breathing through the nose. Each package contains 15 extended-release tablets. Adults and children 12 years and over should take one tablet daily with a full glass of water, not exceeding one tablet in 24 hours. The tablet should not be divided, crushed, chewed, or dissolved.
Due to the pseudoephedrine content, this medication is available behind the pharmacy counter and requires identification for purchase. Important warnings include not using if taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) or if you have certain medical conditions such as heart disease, thyroid disease, high blood pressure, or diabetes without consulting a doctor first. Consumers with liver or kidney disease should ask a doctor to determine if a different dose is needed.
