Sierra Cantabria Reserva Única is a celebrated Spanish red wine from the Rioja DOCa appellation, produced by Bodegas Sierra Cantabria, a family winery with roots dating back to 1870. Sourced from proprietary estate vineyards in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, La Rioja, the fruit is grown using environmentally integrated agriculture practices on vines over 30 years old.
The wine is a blend of 97% Tempranillo and 3% Graciano, traditionally elaborated with 100% de-stemming and malolactic fermentation completed in oak. It is then aged for 24 months in a combination of French oak Bordelaise barrels (60%) and American oak Bordelaise barrels (40%), with 30% new oak and up to 70% barrels previously used for a maximum of three wines.
Bright ruby in color, the nose is expressive with aromas of redcurrant, cherry, and licorice. On the palate, the wine is juicy and full-bodied, offering red fruit flavors intertwined with toasty vanilla and underlying mineral notes. Firm, well-integrated tannins lead to a long, penetrating finish marked by spice and floral notes. Best served at 16–18°C, this wine pairs well with aged cheeses, cured meats, lamb, and hearty stews.
The Reserva Única has earned strong critical recognition, including 91 points from Wine Advocate, 92 points from Wine Spectator, 92 points from Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, and 93 points from IntoWine for the 2019 vintage.
