Tablas Creek Vineyard's Patelin de Tablas Rouge is a Paso Robles take on a classic Rhône-style red blend, crafted by one of California's most celebrated Rhône-specialist wineries. Founded in 1989 as a partnership between the Haas family and the Perrin family of Château de Beaucastel, Tablas Creek pioneered Rhône varieties in California and remains a benchmark producer for the style. Sold in cases of 12 bottles, each 750ml.

The wine blends 45% Syrah, 30% Grenache, 23% Mourvèdre, and 2% Counoise, drawing fruit from multiple top vineyards across four distinct Paso Robles districts: the limestone-rich Adelaida and El Pomar districts, the cool coastal-influenced Templeton Gap, and the warmer Geneseo heartland. Each district contributes distinct character—structure and minerality from limestone soils, brightness and acidity from the Templeton Gap, and juicy vibrancy from the sandy loam of Geneseo. The wine comes in at a restrained 13.0% ABV. Grapes are fermented in a mix of upright oak fermenters and stainless steel tanks, then aged six months in 1,500-gallon oak upright tanks before bottling.

Tasting notes reveal a savory nose of black pepper and teriyaki alongside dark fruit aromas. The palate offers black fruit and black licorice with plum skin acidity, finishing with notes of sweet sarsaparilla and smoky oolong tea—simultaneously serious and approachable. The 2023 vintage benefited from Paso Robles' coolest growing season in over a decade, yielding exceptional hangtime, deep color, and noteworthy freshness. The wine has earned critical scores ranging from 90 to 94 points, including 93 points from Wine Enthusiast and James Suckling, and 92 points from Decanter and Vinous. Ideal pairings include grilled meats, pasta with meat sauces, roast pork loin, beef stews, and beef or pork stir-fries.
