Quady North 4-2,A Syrah is a red wine from the Rogue Valley appellation in Southern Oregon, produced by winemaker Herb Quady. This sophisticated blend of 88% Syrah, 11% Grenache, and 1% Viognier delivers a compelling expression of the Rogue Valley's volcanic-influenced terroir.
The creative designation "4-2,A" was inspired by Herb Quady's daughter Margaux, who coined the playful term "fortooay" derived from the names of wine grape varieties she encountered at home. It became the signature name for blends crafted from multiple vineyard sources across the Applegate Valley. The grapes are destemmed with a portion of whole berries retained, fermented in small tanks to preserve fruit character, and then aged in 20% new French oak barrels to add structure while maintaining freshness.
On the nose, the wine opens with aromas of dark plum, blackberry, coffee, vanilla cream, and spice. The palate follows with rich, fruit-driven flavors of plum, dark berries, cinnamon, and cedar, framed by firm yet approachable tannins and bright acidity. The finish is crisp and clean, with a round and roasty character that overdelivers for its modest price point. The wine has received critical scores ranging from 87 to 94 points across multiple vintages.
