Golden Hami melons are a variety of muskmelon that have been cultivated in China for thousands of years, named after the city of Hami in the Xinjiang region. This vibrant yellow-skinned melon features pale yellow to nearly orange flesh with a webbed texture visible on its exterior. The fruit has an oblong shape similar to cantaloupe, with a soft pocket of seeds at its core that can be easily scraped out.

Known for its remarkably sweet flavor and crisp, firm texture, the Golden Hami is often described as a cross between a cantaloupe and honeydew, with refreshing crispness reminiscent of apples and cucumbers. The melon typically weighs a minimum of 2.04 kg (4.5 lbs) and is sold individually.

To select a ripe Golden Hami, look for a clearly sweet, subtly floral aroma when sniffing near the base of the stem, and gentle give when pressed firmly. The melon can be enjoyed fresh by cutting in half, scooping out seeds, and slicing into wedges, or cubed for easier eating. It pairs excellently with prosciutto in Italian-style appetizers, works well in salads with burrata and vinaigrette, or can be served as dessert with sugar, cardamom, and fresh mint alongside whipped cream or ice cream.
