Beef oxtail consists of the tail of beef cattle, cut into thick cross-sections containing bone surrounded by rich, marbled meat and connective tissue. Each package contains sliced beef oxtail from Rumba brand with an average weight of 5 pounds, sold as random weight. This cut is halal certified and should be kept refrigerated.
Oxtail is prized for its deep, beefy flavor and high collagen content, making it ideal for slow-cooked dishes like stews, soups, and braises. The meat becomes fall-off-the-bone tender after 3 hours of gentle simmering or 1 hour in a pressure cooker. Popular preparations include Caribbean oxtail stew, Korean Seolleongtang (milky bone broth), Vietnamese pho, Jamaican oxtail with rice and peas, and classic European braised oxtail dishes.
Nutrition per 1 oz cooked (after bone removed, 16g): 40 calories, 4.9g protein, 0g carbs, 2.1g total fat (0.82g saturated), 16.8mg cholesterol, 62.9mg sodium.
