Organic Lady Alice apples are a premium American apple variety discovered in 1979 as a chance seedling in the orchards near Gleed, Washington. Named after Alice Zirkle, the matriarch of the family behind Rainier Fruit Company, this variety has become prized for its exceptional flavor and long keeping qualities. Each 4-pound bag (1.81 kg) contains certified organic apples grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers.
Lady Alice apples are medium to large in size with a striking appearance โ a rich golden-yellow base skin almost entirely covered in deep pink, red, and orange blushing and striping. The ivory-to-pale yellow flesh is fine-grained, dense, firm, and aqueous with a crisp, tender consistency. Their flavor is a well-balanced sweet-tart profile with nuances of pineapple, vanilla, and almonds. One of their most distinctive qualities is that flavor improves with extended storage, developing added complexity and floral undertones over time.
These apples are wonderfully versatile. They oxidize slowly when sliced, making them ideal for fruit salads, charcuterie boards, and snack plates. Their dense flesh holds its shape well under heat, so they perform excellently in baked goods like tarts, cakes, and muffins, as well as in savory preparations such as applesauce, stuffing, and roasted dishes alongside meats. They pair especially well with almonds, cheddar and goat cheese, pork and poultry, and herbs like thyme and rosemary.
Lady Alice apples are a source of vitamin C, vitamin A, potassium, fiber, copper, and iron, along with calcium, phosphorus, vitamins K and E, magnesium, manganese, and zinc. Store whole, unwashed apples in a cool, dry, dark location where they can keep for several months without loss of firmness or flavor.
