Don Melchor Cabernet Sauvignon is a prestigious Chilean red wine produced by Concha y Toro from their renowned Puente Alto vineyard in the Maipo Valley. This wine is crafted from older vines planted in 1979 combined with newer plantings from the acclaimed estate, situated on the northern bank of the River Maipo in the Andean foothills at an altitude of 650 meters. The blend consists of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Merlot.
The 2021 vintage earned exceptional recognition as the #1 wine in Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2024, receiving 96 points. This deep purple-colored wine displays complex aromatics with red fruit and berry notes, floral hints of violets, ashy graphite, cassis, iron, blackberries, and subtle touches of cigar box and chocolate. On the palate, it offers a smooth entry with great energy and breadth, rounded tannins, and a long expressive finish showcasing harmony, depth and elegance. The wine features layers of dried rosemary, white pepper, raspberry and plum flavors with precision and well-integrated tannins, finishing with touches of cocoa and cedar.
This wine is drinkable now but will age beautifully over the next 20 years, with optimal drinking recommended from 2026 through 2040. The Puente Alto terroir imparts distinctive mineral characteristics of forest floor, stoney minerality, and graphite that define this iconic Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon.
