This is a case of twelve 750 mL bottles of Merryvale Vineyards Pinot Noir from the Carneros appellation, vintage 2002. Merryvale Vineyards is a celebrated Napa Valley estate, and this Pinot Noir is sourced from multiple vineyards throughout the Carneros appellation, including the historic Stanly Ranch Estate, as well as Amaral, Mitsuko, Saintsbury, and Huichica Hills vineyards. Carneros sits at the cool, southern end of both Napa and Sonoma valleys, where marine influence from San Pablo Bay creates ideal conditions for growing Pinot Noir with vibrant acidity and elegant fruit character.
The wine is dark ruby red in color with violet notes and medium density. The nose is complex and seductive, offering aromas of black cherry, cassis, earth, graham cracker, flowers, and black currant. On the palate it is medium-bodied and fresh, with soft, resolved tannins balanced by a crisp acidic backbone. The finish is long and lingering, with notes of red cherry, spice, and blackberries.
Best enjoyed slightly chilled at 60–65°F. Pairs well with roasted chicken, turkey, salmon, smoked meats, mushrooms, seasonal vegetables, and light cheeses.
