Birichino Vin Gris is a Provençal-style rosé wine from California's Central Coast, crafted by Alex Krause and John Locke, who founded Birichino in Santa Cruz in 2008. Drawing on decades of winemaking experience across California, France, and Italy, Birichino produces wines focused on perfume, poise, and balance.
This rosé is a blend of Grenache, Carignane, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, and Vermentino. The Grenache is sourced from the western edge of the Salinas Valley, complemented by very old Carignane, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault vines in Contra Costa and Lodi. All fruit is hand-harvested and co-fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel. Malolactic fermentation is inhibited, producing a bright, vivid, and refreshing wine.
The wine pours a light pink color with aromas of watermelon, strawberry, wet stone, and subtle herbs. The palate delivers strawberry and cherry flavors with a stony, chalky texture and a finish reminiscent of herbes de Provence. Rated 91 points by both Wine Enthusiast and Jeb Dunnuck. Sold as a case of 12 x 750ml bottles.
