Au Contraire Chardonnay is a California white wine sourced from vineyards stretching from the heart of Russian River Valley to the western edges of Green Valley, bordering Sonoma Coast. This acclaimed wine-growing region benefits from cool nights and coastal fog, which extend the growing season and allow the grapes to maintain their natural acidity.
Crafted from 100% Chardonnay grapes, the wine is whole cluster pressed, with the juice settled off the heavy lees and split between stainless steel and barrel fermentation with light lees stirring. It is aged for 8 months in tank and barrel using 100% French oak (30% new). The result is a gold-colored wine with green tints and a pronounced lemon citrus core layered with pear, crisp apple, and a floral note of jasmine. On the palate, citrus and tree fruits are complemented by a hint of brioche and toast, with well-balanced acidity and a clean, lingering finish.
Au Contraire is the first US brand developed by the Taub Family, owners of leading importer Palm Bay International, with winemaker Tom Hinde at the helm. The wine has earned 93 points from Wine Enthusiast and pairs beautifully with shellfish, roasted chicken, pasta in cream sauce, zesty grilled vegetable dishes, and mild cheeses. Each bottle contains 13.8% alcohol by volume with residual sugar under 2 g/L, making it a dry-style Chardonnay.
