Fresh Red Anjou Pears in a convenient 4-pound bag, sourced from the Pacific Northwest where they are grown in the renowned pear-producing regions of Oregon and Washington. Red Anjou pears are a naturally occurring variety discovered as bud sports on Green Anjou trees, first found in Medford, Oregon in the 1950s.

Red Anjous are easily recognized by their egg-shaped silhouette with a large, rounded lower portion tapering evenly to a smaller top, and their distinctive deep maroon skin โ€” sometimes featuring light vertical streaks from sun exposure while on the tree. Unlike most pear varieties, their skin color changes only slightly as they ripen, so the best way to check ripeness is the thumb test: gentle pressure near the stem will yield slightly when ready to eat.

When ripe, Red Anjou pears develop a mild, sweet flavor with a very smooth texture and abundant juice. They are excellent eaten fresh, sliced into salads, or used in cooked preparations such as grilling, poaching, roasting, and baking. Their striking red color makes them a beautiful addition to fruit displays and cheese boards. Allow unripe pears to ripen at room temperature for several days before eating.

Red Anjou pears are a good source of dietary fiber and provide vitamin C, vitamin K, and potassium.
