Alstroemeria, also known as Peruvian Lily, is a vibrant flowering perennial sold in a 1.6-gallon (#2) container. Available in a wide range of colors — including pinks, purples, yellows, oranges, whites, and bicolors — these plants produce clusters of delicate, six-petaled, trumpet-shaped blooms that are stunning in garden beds, patio containers, and cut flower arrangements. The Princess Hybrid varieties sold at Costco are compact and well-behaved, growing approximately 12–18 inches tall with a spread of around 15 inches.
Alstroemeria thrives in well-draining soil with consistent moisture. Plants perform best with morning sun and afternoon shade and benefit from feeding once or twice during the growing season with a balanced fertilizer. They are cold-hardy perennials that die back in winter and return reliably each spring, making them a long-term addition to any garden.
For cut flower arrangements, gently pull (rather than cut) the flower stems from the base to encourage the plant to produce more blooms. Flowers are exceptionally long-lasting in the vase — up to two weeks or more when properly cared for. Always trim the pale lower portion of the stem and remove any leaves below the waterline to maximize vase life.
