Pieris japonica (Japanese Andromeda) in a #5 container (4.35 gallon / 16.46 liter pot). Sold in assorted varieties, which may include popular cultivars such as Mountain Fire, Forest Flame, Katsura, Valley Valentine, or Variegata. Pieris is an evergreen flowering shrub prized for its cascading clusters of fragrant, bell-shaped white or pink flowers that bloom in early spring, along with colorful new foliage that emerges in shades of pink to red before maturing to glossy green.
This acid-loving shrub grows 2 to 6 feet tall with a naturally rounded form and requires minimal pruning. It thrives in partial shade with moist, well-drained acidic soil and is hardy in USDA zones 5 through 8. Pieris is an excellent companion plant for azaleas, rhododendrons, and camellias, and works well in woodland gardens, foundation plantings, or containers. All parts of the plant are toxic to pets and livestock if ingested.
