Don Antonio Primitivo Puglia IGT is a full-bodied Italian red wine crafted by Cantine Coppi from 100% Primitivo grapes grown in the Marchione district of Conversano, Bari, in the Puglia region of southern Italy. This wine is the result of an experiment by oenologist Senator Antonio Michele Coppi, founder of the Coppi Wines dynasty, produced from select estate grapes cultivated in limestone and clay soils with low yields of 1–4 kg per plant.
The winemaking process features an innovative carbonic maceration of approximately 7–8 days, followed by malolactic fermentation in large 100-hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels. The wine exhibits a purplish-red, intense, and brilliant color with an aromatic profile of ripe red fruits, spicy oak notes, and a characteristic grape complexity. On the palate it is warm, full-bodied, and harmonious with well-controlled tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, persistent finish. Alcohol content is 14.5%. Serving temperature is 18–20°C (64–68°F), and the wine has an aging potential of over 10 years.
Don Antonio pairs beautifully with traditional Italian dishes such as lasagne and saffron risotto, as well as roasted turkey and aged cheddar. It has earned 93 points from Falstaff for multiple vintages. Each case contains 12 bottles of 750ml. Contains sulphites.
