Mortlach The Katana's Edge is a special release single malt Scotch whisky from the Mortlach distillery in Dufftown, Speyside, Scotland. This 2023 Special Release is finished in a combination of ex-Kanosuke Japanese whisky casks and ex-pinot noir casks, resulting in a distinctive and unexpected expression of Mortlach's characteristically robust spirit.
Bottled at cask strength (58% ABV), this whisky is vigorous, vibrant, and vital. The nose offers melon, pear, icing sugar, and fruit with gentle spice. The palate delivers ripe fruit and dry spice, leading to a long, dry, and fruity finish. The finely balanced finishing casks help reveal a deeply fruity and richly rewarding side of Mortlach never before encountered.
Best enjoyed neat or with a small splash of water to allow the intricate layers of flavor to unfold fully on the palate.
