Le Traversier is a Châteauneuf-du-Pape (CDP) red wine blend produced by Château Simian, a historic estate in the Southern Rhône Valley of France. The wine is made from a blend of approximately 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre, and 5% Cinsault, sourced from organically and biodynamically farmed vines averaging over 50 years of age, with Demeter certification.
Vinification takes place in concrete tanks or stainless steel vats, followed by 8 months of aging in demi-muids (large French oak casks) before bottling. This gentle approach preserves the wine's natural fruit expression while adding subtle structure and complexity.
On the nose, Le Traversier offers aromas of sweet cherries, raspberry jam, and sweet spices characteristic of the Southern Rhône. The palate is full-bodied and generous with plush, velvety tannins, bright fruit, and a focused finish with a lift of spice. Vintages have earned scores ranging from 87–92 points from critics, and recent vintages have received Guide Hachette des Vins 1-star recognition. Best enjoyed within 3–12 years of the vintage, with an optimal drinking window developing after 3–4 years of bottle age.
