Fort George Brewery Matryoshka is a barrel-aged Russian Imperial Stout brewed in Astoria, Oregon. First debuting in 2017, Matryoshka has become one of the most sought-after barrel-aged beer series in the Pacific Northwest. The base beer is a barrel-aged version of Fort George's bold imperial stout, From Astoria With Love, aged in a rotating selection of premium whiskey and bourbon barrels from distilleries such as Westward Whiskey, Westland Distillery, and Buffalo Trace.
Like its namesake Russian nesting doll, each annual release features multiple variants layered with adjuncts such as vanilla beans, cocoa nibs, coconut, cinnamon, and fruit. The beer is packaged in wax-dipped 500mL bottles and released each February at Fort George's annual Aftermath event, the day after the Festival of Dark Arts. Matryoshka holds a 94 rating on BeerAdvocate across 90 reviews. Sold in a 12-pack of 500mL bottles.
