Skip Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus 'Schipkaensis') is a fast-growing, broadleaf evergreen shrub prized for its dense, glossy foliage and versatility as a privacy hedge or windscreen. Sold in a 6-gallon (22.5L) container, this established plant is ready to go in the ground and establish quickly in the landscape.
Mature plants reach 10 to 18 feet tall and 5 to 7 feet wide, growing approximately 2 feet per year. In spring, fragrant white flower spikes emerge, followed by dark purple-black berries in fall and winter that attract birds. The foliage remains lush and green year-round, tolerating full sun to full shade without yellowing or thinning.
Skip Laurel adapts well to a wide range of soil types including clay, loam, sand, and chalk, in both acidic and alkaline conditions. It prefers well-drained to moist soils but dislikes waterlogged sites. Hardy in USDA Zones 6 through 9, it can withstand temperatures as low as -10°F. Once established, it is drought-tolerant and deer-resistant, making it a low-maintenance choice for hedges, screens, or borders. Responds well to pruning for shaping. Note that all parts of the plant are toxic if ingested by humans or animals.
