Château Canon La Gaffelière 2022 is a Premier Grand Cru Classé B from Saint-Émilion, one of Bordeaux's most prestigious appellations. Owned and managed by the von Neipperg family, this estate has been certified 100% organic since 2014. The 2022 vintage is a blend of 50% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc, and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, harvested September 6-22 from a 19.5-hectare vineyard on clay-limestone and sand soils at the foot of the Saint-Émilion slopes. The wine was whole berry fermented in temperature-controlled oak vats with malolactic fermentation in new French oak barrels, then aged in 40% new oak for 15 months.
Deep and dark in color, the 2022 opens with vivid floral notes, oceanic influences, plums, smoke, licorice, and black cherries. On the palate it is concentrated, opulent, polished, vibrant, silky, and fresh, finishing with multiple layers of chocolate-covered plums, black cherries, espresso, crushed stones, and spices. The balance, freshness, and purity of the fruit make everything work harmoniously. Rated 97 points by The Wine Cellar Insider, this is one of the best vintages in the history of the estate. 14.2% ABV. Best enjoyed from 2027 through 2055.
Pairs beautifully with classic meat dishes including beef, lamb, veal, duck, and game, as well as Asian cuisine, rich fish courses like tuna, mushrooms, and pasta. Best served at 15.5°C (60°F). Young vintages benefit from 2-3 hours of decanting.
