Mary Taylor Beaujolais-Villages is a 100% Gamay Noir red wine from the AOP Beaujolais-Villages appellation in the Rhône and Saône-et-Loire departments of France, imported by Mary Taylor Wine. The wine is produced by Marine Descombes, a fifth-generation winemaker who took over her family's domaine before the age of 30 and is widely recognized as one of the great women winemakers in France.
The grapes are harvested by hand with strict selection from 12 plots spanning 11 hectares, with vines averaging 55 years of age — some planted as far back as World War I. The fruit is sourced from parcels in the commune of Brouilly, grown on light, acidic granite and sandy soils with a temperate climate influenced by oceanic, continental, and Mediterranean conditions. Vines are trained in the traditional Gobelet style.
Winemaking follows a Burgundy-style approach: 40% of bunches are destemmed, followed by 10 days of vatting, slow soft pressing, one month of fermentation, and six months of aging in cement vats. This process yields a wine with beautiful purity of Gamay fruit and a unique expression of Beaujolais terroir. The wine has earned scores of 90–91 points from John Gilman (View From The Cellar) and 90–91 points from James Suckling, with drinking windows extending to 2045 for the 2022 vintage.
