Couly-Dutheil Clos de l'Echo is a prestigious single-vineyard red wine from the Chinon appellation in France's Loire Valley. Produced by the acclaimed Couly-Dutheil estate, which has been a defining name in Chinon winemaking since 1921, this wine is crafted from 100% Cabernet Franc grown in one of the appellation's most storied vineyards — a historic site situated directly opposite the medieval fortress of Chinon.
After complete destemming and sorting, fermentation lasts approximately 30 days under careful temperature control, promoting the expression of Cabernet Franc's characteristic fruit. The wine presents a deep ruby color with a powerful and complex nose offering rich notes of black fruit, violets, exotic spices, and tea leaves. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied with chalky tannins, a fleshy core of dark fruit, and a long, fragrant finish with hints of smoked bacon and ripe red fruit. Alcohol is approximately 13.5–14% ABV.
The Clos de l'Echo is considered one of Chinon's benchmark wines, earning scores in the low-to-mid 90s from critics including Wine Advocate and Vinous. It is enjoyable upon release but built for aging, drinking superbly from 5 to 7 years old and extraordinarily around 10 years old.
