Viña Ventisquero Tara Chardonnay is a distinctive 100% Chardonnay sourced from extreme desert vineyards in the Huasco Valley, Atacama region of northern Chile. The vineyards are located in an oasis fed by the Huasco River at the southern edge of the Atacama Desert, planted on chalky, limestone-rich soils with a high salt content. The Pacific Ocean's morning fog, known locally as the "Camanchaca," and strong coastal winds cool the vines and create a rare cool-climate desert terroir unlike anywhere else in the world.

This is an unconventional Chardonnay made in a natural wine style — fermented with native yeast in stainless steel, aged for 24 months (70% stainless steel, 30% used French oak), and bottled unfined and unfiltered, resulting in a characteristically hazy appearance. The nose reveals notes of sweet cucumber, apricot, citrus, and white floral aromas with a smoky mineral edge. On the palate, the wine is tense, fresh, and nervously structured, with vibrant acidity, a creamy texture from extended lees contact, and a long, salty, chalky finish driven by the vineyard's unique saline soils.

Awarded 96 points by Tim Atkin and 94+ points by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, which called it "unique — not just in Chile but in the whole world." The CellarTracker community scores it an average of 91 points. It can be cellared for up to 6 years under optimal conditions and pairs beautifully with oysters, sea urchins, oily fish, and white meat.
