Contino Blanco is a premium white Rioja wine produced by Viñedos del Contino, a renowned estate winery owned by CVNE (Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España). This elegant white is crafted from a blend of Viura and Garnacha Blanca grapes sourced from estate vineyards between 35 and 40 years old in the Rioja Alavesa subregion.
The Garnacha Blanca is harvested from the San Gregorio Encina estate, planted in 1980 on calcareous clay soil, while the Viura comes from multiple Contino vineyard plots including the alluvial soils of the old Lentisco estate and the stony soils of San Gregorio La Tabla. After whole-bunch destemming and pellicular maceration, the wine undergoes 20 days of alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel. Approximately 70% is then aged in new and used oak barrels of 400 to 500 liters, with the remaining 30% maturing in a concrete egg tank for ten months, yielding a wine with floral and fruity aromatics, notes of apricots, baked peaches, hazelnuts, and white chocolate, balanced by barrel-derived structure and creaminess. Alcohol content is approximately 13%.
Contino Blanco has received critical acclaim including 95 points from James Suckling, 94 points from Wine Enthusiast, 93+ points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, and 92 points from Wine Spectator.
