Nigl "Freiheit" Grüner Veltliner is a dry white wine from the Kremstal wine region of Lower Austria, produced by Weingut Nigl — one of the most acclaimed family estates in the region. The name "Freiheit" (meaning "freedom") references some of the first privately owned vineyard land in the valley not controlled by the Church or a feudal estate.

The wine is sourced from four different hillside vineyards above the city of Krems, with soils primarily composed of loess and steep elevations that moderate temperatures for vibrant acidity and freshness. Winemaker Martin Nigl works exclusively in stainless steel, using only ambient yeasts, gravity settling of musts, and minimal intervention — never fining before bottling — resulting in exceptional clarity and precision.

On the palate, Freiheit delivers bright citrus, pear, and lime peel with floral and grassy notes, a peppery-mineral edge characteristic of great Grüner Veltliner, and a clean, refreshing finish. It has received recognition from Wine Spectator (89 points), praised for its apple blossom, melon, and quince flavors with good minerality and herbal vibrancy. The wine pairs beautifully with white fish, shellfish, salads, and light Austrian cuisine.
