Montes Purple Angel is a premium Chilean red wine from the Colchagua Valley, recognized as one of the finest expressions of Carmenère. This exceptional red blend consists of 92% Carmenère sourced from the Marchigüe and Apalta sectors, with 8% Petit Verdot from Apalta. The wine is aged in new French oak barrels for 18 months, developing remarkable complexity and structure.

The wine displays an impressive deep purplish-red color with outstanding aromas of ripe red and black berries, sweet spices, dark chocolate, and mocha notes. On the palate, it is concentrated, blackberry-forward, and smoky with full body. The structure features soft, ample tannins, while acidity from the Petit Verdot lends juiciness and enables excellent aging potential. The finish is elegant and intensely complex with layers of humus, iron, and olive paste before the fruit returns for an encore.

The vineyards are located on soils of granitic origin that vary in clay content, organic matter, depth, and stone types of fluvial and glacial origin, reflecting the tremendous diversity of terroir in these exceptional vineyards. Carmenère has a unique story as a variety that disappeared from European vineyards around 1880 and was thought extinct for over 200 years before reappearing in Chile in 1993, earning it the nickname "Jurassic Park" grape.

This wine pairs beautifully with red meats, lamb chops with rosemary, pork ribs, and cannelloni. Recent vintages have earned impressive scores including 96 points from VinousMedia.com and 97 points from James Suckling for the 2022 vintage, and 93 points from Wine Spectator for the 2010 vintage.
