The Marqués del Atrio 2 Cepas Blanco de Guarda is an oak-aged white wine from the DOCa Rioja designation in Spain. The name "2 Cepas" — meaning two grape varieties — reflects its blend of Viura and Tempranillo Blanco grapes sourced from vineyards in the Eastern Rioja area near Mendavia. Sold in a case of six 750ml bottles at Costco.
After separate fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, the two varieties are aged for 10 months in new French oak barrels, producing a complex, structured white wine at 13% ABV. The 2019 vintage was rated "Excellent" by the DOCa Rioja, a milestone not achieved since 2011.
The wine pours a bright yellow-green color with expressive aromas of pineapple and mango from the Tempranillo Blanco, layered with floral and citrus notes from the Viura, and complemented by vanilla, nuts, and toasted oak from barrel aging. On the palate it is silky and fresh with good body, ripe tropical fruit, and a persistent finish. Best served chilled at 6–8°C. Pairs well as an aperitif or alongside grilled fish, seafood, rice, and white meats. Contains sulfites.
