Tenute Neirano Barolo is a prestigious DOCG red wine from the Piedmont region of northwestern Italy, produced by a small estate in the heart of Monforte d'Alba โ a subzone renowned for its compressed sandstone soils that yield intense, structured wines with exceptional aging potential.
The Neirano estate traces its roots to 1911 when Antonio Sperone founded the company producing fortified wines and vermouth near Turin. In the 1980s, the Sperone family purchased a 25-hectare property in Monforte d'Alba with the goal of crafting premium Piedmontese wines. The Barolo spends three years aging in large Slovenian oak barrels, followed by one year in bottle before release, developing complexity and allowing its hallmark Nebbiolo tannins to integrate.
On the nose, this wine offers dried cherries, raspberry jam, dried strawberries, and hints of spicy vanilla with an earthy, undergrowth character. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied with firm, chewy tannins and good structure. The 2019 vintage earned 92 points from James Suckling. It benefits from additional cellaring of a few years for the tannins to further soften and integrate.
