Château La Bastienne is a prestigious Montagne Saint-Émilion wine from the Bordeaux region of France, produced by Vignobles Pierre-Emmanuel Janoueix. The estate, listed as Premier Grand Cru Montagne, was acquired by the Janoueix family in the 1940s and has been producing wine since 1632.
Made from 100% Merlot grapes grown on 12.5 hectares of clay-limestone soil on the southwestern slope of the Lalande-de-Pomerol plateau. The vines average 50 years old with a plant density of 6,600 per hectare. Grapes are hand-picked and sorted, then vinified in temperature-controlled concrete vats for one month before aging 12 months in French oak barrels.
The wine presents a beautiful ruby red color with violet hues. The nose is expressive with notes of black fruits and sweet spices, while the palate is velvety with smooth tannins and a long finish. Best served at 17°C and pairs well with duck breast, braised lamb, guinea fowl, and foie gras. Capable of aging 15 to 20 years depending on vintage. The estate holds HVE (High Environmental Value) certification and has received numerous competition awards including gold at the Concours de Bordeaux and scores of 92-93 from James Suckling.
