Domaine de la Vieille Julienne Les Hauts Lieux is a prestigious Châteauneuf-du-Pape red wine from the southern Rhône Valley of France, produced by one of the appellation's most celebrated biodynamic estates. This cuvée, first introduced in 2010, takes its name from a cooler, elevated parcel in the Mont Redon lieu-dit, where limestone and quartz soils and a northern exposure result in the estate's latest-maturing fruit.
The blend is composed of approximately 70% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre, with Cinsault and Counoise completing the assemblage. Yields are kept deliberately low at around 18 hectoliters per hectare. Grapes are fully destemmed, fermented in cement tanks, and aged in large foudre barrels, preserving freshness while building structure. The higher proportion of Mourvèdre compared to the estate's other cuvées gives Les Hauts Lieux a firmer, more structured profile with remarkable aging potential.
The wine offers aromas of flowers, black raspberries, kirsch, and peppery herbs, leading to a palate of sweet cherries and plums with meaty, spicy, and concentrated flavors and a supple texture. It is considered one of the estate's longest-lived wines, built for extended cellaring.
