Casa da Passarella is a historic wine estate located in the Dão region of central Portugal, near the Serra da Estrela mountain range. This red blend is a traditional expression of the Dão appellation, one of Portugal's oldest and most celebrated wine regions, known for its granite soils, high altitude vineyards, and continental climate tempered by Atlantic breezes.
The wine is crafted as a field blend drawing from indigenous Dão grape varieties including Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Alfrocheiro, and Jaen. Fermented in open-top lagars in the traditional Portuguese style, it delivers smooth, well-integrated tannins backed by generous black fruit character. The palate shows dark plum and blackberry flavors with balanced spice and fresh acidity that lends the wine excellent structure and food-pairing versatility. Alcohol by volume is 12.5%. Sold at Costco as a case of six 750ML bottles.
This wine has earned consistently strong critical scores from Wine Enthusiast and other publications, typically ranging from 88 to 94 points across vintages. It pairs well with roasted meats, lamb, hearty stews, hard cheeses, and grilled vegetables.
