Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva is a celebrated Italian red wine from the Chianti Classico DOCG appellation in Tuscany. This magnum-format bottle (1.5L) showcases the estate's signature expression of the denomination, first produced in 1962 and now recognized as a global ambassador for the region.
Crafted primarily from Sangiovese grapes with additions of Canaiolo and Colorino, the wine undergoes fermentation in temperature-controlled truncated conical steel vats with délestage and pumping over for approximately 18–20 days. Aging takes place over roughly 18 months — one portion in large 3,800-liter oak casks and another in second-passage tonneaux — followed by six months of bottle aging before release. The result is a structured yet approachable wine with notes of black cherry, mint, spice, and forest floor, underpinned by firm tannins and good aging potential.
The Riserva consistently earns high critical praise, with scores ranging from 92 to 96 points from major critics including Wine Enthusiast (94 pts), James Suckling (94 pts), and Robert Parker (93 pts). It can be enjoyed upon release or cellared for further development.
