Prosper Maufoux's Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits "Domaine Vigne au Roy" is a Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy's most scenic appellations. The vineyards are situated at elevations between 300 and 400 meters on the Jurassic limestone plateaus west of the Côte-de-Nuits, where clay-limestone soils derived from limestone and marl bedrock impart distinctive minerality and structure. Prosper Maufoux is widely regarded as a benchmark producer of accessible, quality Burgundy wines.
The wine presents a deep purplish color with an expressive nose of small black fruits—black cherry, currant, and ripe strawberry—complemented by floral notes of rose petals and hints of savory earth and mushroom. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied with a dense, concentrated texture, flavors of spiced black cherry and currant, and well-integrated tannins that provide structure and energy. The finish is long with crisp acidity and lingering notes of black cherry, currant, and earthy mushroom.
Vinification follows traditional Burgundian methods: whole-bunch pressing in a pneumatic press, 24-hour cold settling at 12°C, and alcoholic and malolactic fermentation followed by 10 months of maturation in a combination of stainless steel tanks and lightly toasted French oak barrels with 20% new oak. Serve at 14–15°C (57–59°F). Pairs well with red meats, game, charcuterie, and strong cheeses such as Roquefort, blue cheese, and Époisses. Cellar potential of 3 to 7 years.
