Louis Bernard Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a classic Southern Rhône red wine from France, produced by the historic Louis Bernard estate — part of the Boisset Collection — whose vineyard history in the appellation dates back to the late 1600s. The wine is sourced from 24 hectares of vines in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with Grenache vines averaging over 40 years of age, many planted in the renowned La Crau lieu-dit.
The wine is a blend of approximately 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and 5% Mourvèdre. Grapes are completely destemmed before fermentation, and the wine is aged in used French oak barrels for approximately 10 months. Around 7,000 cases are produced annually. It is best served at around 60°F (15.5°C) and benefits from 1 hour of decanting when young.
On the nose, the wine opens with dark plum, blackberry, tobacco, garrigue, and herbal notes. On the palate it is full-bodied and lush with silky tannins, offering flavors of dark cherry, mocha, and black tea on a long, lingering finish. It pairs well with lamb, beef, duck, game, roast chicken, grilled meats, mushrooms, aged cheeses, and hearty pasta dishes. Best enjoyed within 3–12 years of the vintage year.
