Chateau St. Jean Cinq Cépages is the flagship red wine from the historic Chateau St. Jean winery in Sonoma County, California, presented here in a 1.5L magnum format. "Cinq Cépages" means "five grapes" in French, referencing the blend of five classic Bordeaux varietals — Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec — sourced from some of Sonoma County's finest appellations.
This wine opens with sultry aromas of dark plum and crème de cassis with a hint of lavender. The palate is plush and structured with layers of dark fruit, nicely integrated oak, and rich, velvety tannins. Decanting is recommended, especially when young, to allow the bold characters to fully open up and evolve. It pairs beautifully with pork tenderloin with cherry compote, grilled New York steak with demi-glace, hearty stews, and aged cheeses.
Cinq Cépages has earned exceptional critical acclaim across multiple vintages, including 94 points from Wine Enthusiast, 96 points from Decanter, and 95 points from James Suckling. The wine is enjoyable upon release and can also be cellared for 10–15 years under proper conditions.
